The Pig Hotel Group Expands with Historic Barnsley House Acquisition
The Pig Hotel group in the UK is expanding its portfolio with the acquisition of two additional properties, as it continues to focus on food-centric venues offering accommodations.
The latest additions to the Pig Hotel chain are located in Barnsley, a picturesque village nestled in the Cotswolds near Cirencester. The group has taken ownership of the historic 17th-century Barnsley House hotel, along with the village pub known as the Boot – marking a new venture for the brand.
Scheduled for a summer 2024 relaunch, the aim is to integrate Barnsley House and its pub into the Pig Hotel lineup, alongside other upcoming openings such as The Pig on the Farm in Stratford-upon-Avon, set to debut in late 2024, and The Pig at Groombridge in Tunbridge Wells, slated for a summer 2025 launch.
Barnsley House, boasting a spa and 18 rooms and suites, already enjoys a favorable reputation within the local community.
Echoing the ethos of other Pig establishments, which currently count eight operational venues, the hotel features a robust restaurant offering centered on locally sourced ingredients. Many Pig properties boast kitchen gardens to ensure freshness and local sourcing.
Expressing enthusiasm for the Barnsley House acquisition, Pig chairman Robin Hutson remarked, “It has long been on our radar as a potential addition to the Pig family, and we are particularly thrilled to incorporate our first pub into the mix.”
With a recent injection of investment in 2022 from US-based private equity firm KSL Capital Partners, the Pig Hotel group is now on a trajectory of accelerated growth. KSL Capital Partners has a notable track record in the hospitality sector, currently supporting UK-based Village Hotels and previously contributing to the expansion of Hotel du Vin and Malmaison brands.
