Marriott vs Marriott Bonvoy – Do You Know?
The difference between Marriott and Marriott Bonvoy is that Marriott is the hotel chain, while Marriott Bonvoy is the hotel chain’s loyalty program. Launched in 2019, Marriott Bonvoy replaced the Marriott Rewards, Ritz-Carlton Rewards, and Starwood Preferred Guest (SPG) loyalty programs.
Marriott International boasts the widest array of brands among all global hotel companies, with a total of 30 distinct flags. Its brand portfolio spans across various categories, including luxury (such as Ritz-Carlton and EDITION), premium (Marriott and Sheraton), select (Moxy and Courtyard), and longer stay options (Element and Residence Inn).
In 2015, Marriott made headlines with its acquisition of Starwood Hotels & Resorts, marking the largest merger in the history of the hotel industry, valued at $13 billion. This strategic move led to the integration of the two companies’ loyalty programs, which were subsequently rebranded as Marriott Bonvoy.
Today, Marriott Bonvoy stands as the largest loyalty program in the hotel sector, boasting a membership of over 120 million travelers as of 2019.
