Chip Rogers Resigns as CEO of American Hotel & Lodging Association
Chip Rogers, the former president and CEO of the American Hotel and Lodging Association (AHLA), recently announced his resignation, citing the toll the role has taken on him. In a LinkedIn post, Rogers expressed gratitude for his five-year tenure but acknowledged the demanding nature of the job, which often required more than 450 nights on the road. Despite the challenges, Rogers highlighted numerous accomplishments during his time, including legislative victories, efforts to combat human trafficking, and the successful launch of a record-breaking industry trade show.
Following Rogers’ departure on March 1, the AHLA board of directors has initiated a search for his replacement, forming a committee to evaluate potential candidates and enlist the services of an executive search firm. In the interim, Kevin Carey, the AHLA’s senior executive vice president and chief operating officer, has assumed the role of interim president and CEO. With extensive experience in AHLA operations and key initiatives, Carey is well-positioned to lead the association during this transitional period.
Chip Rogers took over as president and CEO of AHLA in 2019, succeeding Katherine Lugar. Before his tenure at AHLA, Rogers served as president and CEO of the Asian American Hotel Owners Association since 2014. AHLA board chair Kevin Jacobs expressed confidence in Carey’s leadership abilities, emphasizing his familiarity with the association’s operations and his strong relationships within the hospitality industry. As AHLA embarks on the search for a permanent president and CEO, Jacobs assured stakeholders that the association remains in capable hands under Carey’s stewardship.
