Antigua and Barbuda Poised to Host Caribbean Travel Marketplace for the First Time, Elevating Its Tourism Status
For the first time in its history, Antigua and Barbuda will serve as the host nation for the Caribbean Hotel and Tourism Association’s (CHTA) flagship event, the Caribbean Travel Marketplace (CTM), set to take place from May 18-22, 2025. This event is anticipated to attract major global buyers and regional tourism suppliers, cementing the islands’ position as a rising star in the Caribbean tourism industry.
Antigua and Barbuda’s selection as the venue for the 43rd edition of the CTM reflects its dramatic growth as a travel hotspot. The twin-island nation has seen an impressive 16% surge in stay-over arrivals, surpassing even its pre-pandemic visitor records from 2019. According to Colin C. James, CEO of the Antigua and Barbuda Tourism Authority, hosting such a prestigious event further enhances the islands’ appeal, particularly in the lucrative MICE (Meetings, Incentives, Conferences, and Exhibitions) market.
“This is a monumental moment for our destination,” James remarked. “We are eager to showcase our islands to an audience of global decision-makers, further driving tourism and investment opportunities.”
The Caribbean Travel Marketplace is expected to draw approximately two thousand attendees, including key industry stakeholders, suppliers, and potential investors, offering Antigua and Barbuda a unique platform to highlight its exceptional hospitality services, cultural richness, and natural beauty. CHTA President Nicola Madden-Greig emphasized the importance of the event, calling it the premier marketing platform for the Caribbean tourism industry.
Craig Marshall, Chairman of the Antigua and Barbuda Hotels & Tourism Association, highlighted the economic potential of hosting the CTM, noting that it would not only bring a significant influx of visitors but also stimulate lasting business connections. “The exposure, media attention, and business opportunities will solidify our position as one of the leading destinations in the Caribbean,” Marshall stated.
Antigua and Barbuda’s participation in this prestigious event marks a new chapter in its tourism development, offering a stage to display its unique charm, cultural heritage, and world-class hospitality. The islands are eager to reap the rewards of increased visibility in the global tourism market, further solidifying their reputation as a premier travel destination in the Caribbean.
